Coastal and pelagic seabirds (day-trip)
This day is dedicated exclusively to coastal and pelagic seabirds. For nearly 6 hours we will navigate through the nutrient-rich waters of the Humboldt Current off Valparaiso. We will look for species which are endemic to this ecosystem such as the Humboldt Penguin, Peruvian Booby, Peruvian Pelican, Guanay Cormorant and Peruvian Diving-petrel. This trip will take us a few miles offshore to see birds such as the South American Tern, Southern Fulmar, Wilson’s Storm-petrel, Southern Giant, Westland and Cape Petrels, Sooty and Pink-footed Shearwaters. We have good chances to see Salvin’s, Buller’s and Black-browed albatrosses. After this pelagic we will drive along the coast looking for Cinclodes species: the endemic Chilean Seaside, Dark-bellied, Bar-winged and Grey-flanked. We will also make regular stops to scope the seabird rookeries where we may find Red-legged Cormorants, Inca Terns, Grey Gulls, Blackish Oystercatchers, and Southern Sea Lions.
