A Day at Río Cruces Nature Sanctuary
Our guide will meet us at Valdivia city. During the trip we’ll have the opportunity to observe the effects of the earthquake occurred in 1960. Thousands of hectares of farmlands and forests were flooded by one or two meters of water, forming this enormous wetland. As witnesses of this disaster, you can still see remnants of old forests which rise above water level. The most representative animals are without a doubt birds such as Black-necked Swans, coots and egrets.
At mid day we will enjoying the typical food of southern Chile, a menu with an excellent variety of regional products, such as fish, shell-fish, beef, potatoes and many other fruits and vegetables mainly cultivated in our farm or adjacent fields.
We’ll explore the different habitats of Santa María farm. Through the native forest trail we’ll searching for different species of Tapaculos and others such as the Slender-billed and Austral Parakeets, which nest on hollow tree trunks. Furthermore, into the rainforest we’ll observe the intricate world of plants and micro animals. Late in the afternoon we return to Valdivia.
