Waterfowl and shorebirds in coastal wetlands (1-2 days)

On this trip we visit an interesting array of coastal environments. Sandy beaches and river mouths are good places for spotting Collared Plovers, Willets, Black skimmers, White-backed Stilts and up to five tern species. On recent trips we have recorded Marbled Godwit. At coastal lagoons and marshes we have a good chance to find South American Snipes, three South American Grebes (Great, White-tufted and Silvery), Plumbeous Rails, Lake Ducks, Red Shovelers, Speckled Teals, Chiloe Wigeons, Black-headed Ducks, Black-necked and Coscoroba Swans. Among the riparian vegetation we will look for the Spectacled Tyrant, the shy Warbling Doradito, Many-colored Rush-tyrant, Wren-like Rushbird, and the secretive Stripe-backed Bittern. For winter birding in Central Chile we can add to this list the Rufous-chested Dotterel, Two-banded Plover, and Snowy-crowned Tern.
