Birding in Bío Bío & Araucanía

During our trip to the Araucanía region we will discover the impressive monkey-puzzle trees at one of Chile`s more famous National Parks. This area is home to such diverse birds as the beautiful Magellanic Woodpecker and the skulky Ochre-flanked Tapaculo.

Day 1 + 2. Concepción and Chillán

From Concepción we will drive to the Nevados de Chillán area. En route to the Andes we will shall explore the Nothofagus forests searching for some specialities such as Thorn-tailed Rayadito, Des Murs` Wiretail and the endemic Chestnut-throated Huet-huet. Nevados de Chillán give the opportunity for Andean Condor, White-browed Ground-tyrant, White-sided Hillstar and Rufous-banded Miner. This is also a good place for watching species such as Chilean Pigeon, Chilean Flicker, Plain-mantled Tit-spinetail, and Chilean Mockingbird.

Day 3 + 4. Nahuelbuta National Park

This National Park contains one of the most spectacular monkey-puzzle trees and bird species, such as the magnificent Magellanic Woodpecker, White-throated Hawk, Black-throated Huet-huet, Chucao, Ochre-flanked and Magellanic tapaculos. This forest is home to the tiny Patagonian Tyrant, White-throated Treerunner, Austral Parakeet and Striped Woodpecker.
